Bothies In Scotland Photography Book Project

As some of you may be aware, I have spent the last year planning a book project based around the bothies in Scotland. It was an absolute dream to be in a position to be able to be able to start such an exciting project. And having the backing of Hasselblad and LEE Filters was a massive boost to both me and my self confidence.

Unfortunately on Saturday 29th of June is where it all fell apart. Having driven up from Suffolk to Perth on Friday, then to Dundonnell Saturday to start the hike into Shenavall Bothy.

I quickly realised that my disability of fibromyalgia was really not going to let me win. After persistently rolling my ankle over and nearly hitting the deck several times. Plus the constant pounding of a rucksack full of equipment against my back. I deemed it to dangerous for me to continue to the next bothies.

My Fibromyalgia

This is the first time in my 39 years I have let this bloody condition beat me. Not many people know I have it. But I have recently been encouraged to talk about it more to hopefully help people find ways to deal with it. For me, it’s my photography. For me it’s the best medicine I can have. The irony is this failure has opened up the next project!

The next project is going to be a guide book based around the NC500 in Scotland. The research has been started and hopefully all being well I will start next spring/summer.

Although I cannot tell you what it is about yet, I can tell you its going to be very exciting as nobody has done it yet. and it also means I haven’t got to climb, hike in any way but might still contain some bothies in Scotland.

Below is a small PDF book that I have designed that talks about the project, me. The failure and the urika moment!
